Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Microscopy Analysis of Radiation Damage in Wide Bandgap Semiconductors April 16th, 2025
Position Overview The Department of Nuclear Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral scholar position focused on the investigation of radiation-induced defects and performance degradation in wide bandgap semiconductors, particularly GaN-based devices. The successful candidate will work under the mentorship of Prof. Xing Wang and Prof. Mia Jin, contributing to the advanced characterization of radiation damage using cutting-edge microscopy techniques, including: • 4D Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) • High-resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) • Correlative Atom Probe Tomography (APT) and STEM The postdoctoral scholar will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms governing the behavior of wide bandgap devices under extreme environments, such as high-energy radiation from nuclear reactors and space. Candidates should hold a PhD degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Prior experience in transmission electron microscopy (TEM), EELS, APT, focused ion beam (FIB), or semiconductor defect characterization is highly desirable. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for one year from the date of hire, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability. The position is open immediately and will remain available until filled.
